Cardiovascular diseases are a problem for public health in the Region of Valencia and constitute the prime cause of mortality for the Valencian population. The most common situations in our environment are coronary heart disease, strokes and peripheral arterial disease.
The risk factors which influence the onset of cardiovascular diseases can be split into clinical risk factors and risk factors linked to lifestyles.
Traditionally, risk factors for diseases of the circulatory system have been grouped under those in which modification and intervention are possible, and those where they are not. Among the former, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia (cholesterol imbalance), diabetes mellitus and smoking stand out as having the greatest direct impact.
